Clearing the Path in Jubilife City
Your journey toward the ancient settlement begins after challenging the first Gym Leader in Oreburgh City. Once you secure the Coal Badge, you must backtrack to Jubilife City to deal with a sudden roadblock. Team Galactic grunts will be blocking the northern exit, necessitating a quick double battle alongside Professor Rowan's assistant.
Defeating these villainous grunts clears your path to Route 204, allowing you to advance further north. This route features basic wild encounters and a few mandatory trainer battles to test your current team composition. You will soon hit a cave system known as the Ravaged Path, which requires the use of Rock Smash to clear the internal boulders.
Rescuing the Valley Windworks Manager
Emerging from the northern end of the cave brings you directly into the colorful fields of Floaroma Town. While the town itself offers a peaceful respite, you cannot head directly to your destination just yet due to another Galactic obstruction on Route 205. To open the way, you need to visit the Valley Windworks area located just east of the flower-filled town.
A distressed young girl will ask you to find her father, who is currently held hostage inside the power facility by Team Galactic. You must defeat the grunt guarding the front door, retrieve the Works Key from the nearby Floaroma Meadow, and enter the building. Overcoming Commander Mars in a battle officially liberates the facility and clears the bridges on Route 205.
Surviving the Shadows of Eterna Forest
With Route 205 finally open, you can head north past the bridges and make your way toward a massive woodland canopy. Before entering the woods, you can rest your team at a small house located halfway up the route. Stepping into the Eterna Forest triggers a unique mechanic where you must team up with a trainer named Cheryl.
Cheryl accompanies you through the dark forest path, participating in mandatory double battles and fully healing your party after every single encounter. The forest path winds continuously toward the northeast, packed with hidden items and wild bug-type creatures. Navigating to the top-right exit allows Cheryl to leave your side, bringing you out onto the final stretch of Route 205.
Entering the Historic Eterna City
Once you exit the dense forest, you will find yourself on a peaceful wooden bridge filled with fishermen eager to battle. Crossing this bridge leads you directly into the western entrance of Eterna City, a historic location filled with deep Sinnoh lore. As you enter, you will immediately encounter the mysterious champion Cynthia, who provides you with a useful Hidden Machine.
The city features several notable landmarks, including a massive ancient statue, the local Herb Shop, and a locked Galactic building blocking your progress. Your primary goal here is to challenge Gardenia at the Grass-type Gym to earn your second badge. Securing this victory grants you the ability to use Cut outside of battle, allowing you to fully explore the town's hidden areas.
